Shopping

Please use the menu below to see what sightseeing, shopping, entertainment and dining options are available in Santa Barbara.

Santa Barbara offers a very wide variety of shopping opportunities. Check out the many small arts and crafts stores; visit some of the charming specialty gift shops; keep in touch with “haute couture” at the exclusive designer stores; and then wander around the large department stores and shopping malls.

Foodland Supermarket

This is a very convenient supermarket – it's only 0.3 km from the Student Home. Here you can find all your groceries plus other items that you need daily. A very good supermarket, and always popular with our students. You can walk there in a few minutes, or ride a bicycle there in just one minute!

Shopping on State Street

State Street is always a great place to take a stroll on a warm afternoon or a Saturday morning. There are many small arts and crafts stores here, and you can find several specialty gift shops, too. State Street is easy to reach from the Student Home.

State Street is one of cultural and shopping “hubs” of Santa Barbara, so parts of it can get quite crowded at times (especially during holiday periods).

Vons Supermarket

Vons is a very large supermarket located between the Student Home and downtown. As with Foodland Supermarket, it's perfect for groceries and everyday essentials. You can go there on foot in about 10 minutes. Alternatively, ride a bicycle there in about 5 minutes.

Paseo Nuevo

Located in the downtown area, Paseo Nuevo includes Nordstrom, Macy's and more than 50 specialty shops, restaurants, art galleries and theaters. A great venue for enjoying some leisure time and to soak up the cultural appeal of Santa Barbara!

Ralphs Supermarket

Ralphs is a very large and inexpensive supermarket. It's near the the Transit Center and just 1.3 km from the Student Home. Easy to reach, you can get there on foot in about 15 minutes or ride a bicycle there in 5 minutes.

El Paseo

Located downtown at 812 State Street, El Paseo is California's first shopping center. It was built in the 1920s and features unique gift shops, jewelry stores, galleries and restaurants in lovely Spanish courtyards.

La Arcada

Located downtown on 1114 State Street, La Arcada is another beautiful Spanish courtyard with life-size bronze statues and a variety of specialty stores, galleries, restaurants and cafes. A great place for a relaxing afternoon!

La Cumbre Plaza

Located at the 3800 block of State Street, La Cumbre Plaza is one of Santa Barbara's largest malls. It features two department stores (Robinson-May and Sears), and over 60 stores and restaurants.

Camino Real Market Place

Camino Real Market Place is located in the nearby town of Goleta. It includes several large stores (Costco, Staples, SportsMart, CompUSA, etc), 10 restaurants and a large movie theater.
